Rocklin, CA (November 10, 2015) – Team Freeplay, a Northern California women’s triathlon team, is proud to partner with the Sacramento Running Association (SRA) for the 2016 season.  SRA is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization was established in 1982 with the mission of bringing world class running events to the Sacramento area. The first state of this mission was fulfilled when the inaugural California International Marathon (CIM) was held in December of 1983.  CIM is currently one of the Top 10 marathons in the country.

The Sacramento Running Associations hosts three other events each year in addition to CIM –  Super Sunday Run, Credit Union SACTOWN10, and the Gold Rush 50k. The non-profit organization also hosts youth track meets through the Youth Fitness Series each spring and supports local and regional elite runners who compete on a National level through their club team, SRA Elite.

“Partnering with SRA in 2016 is a great opportunity for the women on the Freeplay triathlon team,” said Stephanie Artis, Freeplay triathlon team director. “This new partnership will enable Freeplay team athletes to focus on their running throughout the 2016 triathlon season by participating in some competitive running events in Sacramento.”

SRA is headed by Executive Director, Scott Abbott. Abbott competed in cross country and track and field at UCLA and coached Division 1 athletes at Sacramento State University prior to taking the executive director position at the Sacramento Running Association. “We are proud to partner and support Team Freeplay.  The SRA is very committed to supporting local elite endurance athletes, helping them pursue endurance sport at the highest levels and represent the greater Sacramento region on the national and international stage,” stated Abbott.  “Groups like Team Freeplay add great value to the local health, fitness, and sport culture and continue to help the Sacramento region be among the top areas in the world for the active lifestyle.”

Freeplay magazine is an endurance sports lifestyle magazine for women that focuses on women in endurance sports including running, cycling, triathlons, swimming and paddle boarding.
