We are just days away from fall but the temperatures in Northern California still say summer.
In Sacramento cross country and cyclo cross racing are in full swing, morning runs are getting darker and darker and runner talk frequently centers around CIM (California International Marathon) – clearly indicating people are ready for the season to officially change.
Here at Freeplay, this is the time of the year where we begin to plan for 2017 – events, races (magazine and personal), upcoming features and partnerships. It is always fun to plug the dates into the calendar; it is like a sneak peak of what’s to come.
Although the schedule is still tentative, 2017 looks to be the perfect blend of Freeplay favorites and new adventures which means I get to look forward to my annual trips to places like Carlsbad and Windsor while still having the pleasure of exploring new towns and venues!
With all this planning, however, it is easy to jump ahead of myself and forget that I still have a jam-packed fall that kicks of this weekend in Truckee for the Truckee Half Marathon/Marathon. Escaping the lingering summer heat to spend the day nestled between Donner Lake and the Sierra Nevadas enjoying their cool, crisp morning air is exactly what I need.
After all there is no better way to spend the first weekend of fall than combining running with unique cafes, eclectic shops and rustic architecture.
