Rocklin, CA (November 20, 2015) – Team Freeplay, a Northern California based women’s triathlon team, is proud add Folsom Bike as a partner for the 2016 season. Folsom Bike is a premier Northern California bike shop that opened in October of 2009 across the street from the American River Bike Trail in Folsom, California. Folsom Bike plays a key role in the cycling community in the Sacramento region by offering two full service bike shops (Folsom Bike and Town Center Bike & Tri), men and women cycling teams, and club teams for all disciplines – road, mountain bike and triathlon.
Although Folsom Bike has always catered to the women’s market, owner Erin Gorrell, felt the need to do more. In August of 2015 she opened the women’s boutique, a separate section of Folsom Bike dedicated solely to female riders. The women’s boutique ties directly into the Proud to Ride Like a Girl campaign that Gorrell started in 2014. The campaign aims to empower girls and women to be advocates for themselves and their health.
“I wanted to remind women what strong individuals we are and that riding like a girl should be a positive connotation – not negative,” stated Gorrell. “I wanted women to feel empowered by who they are no matter what level of athlete, no matter what sport.”
Folsom Bike encourages women to participate in the Proud to Ride Like a Girl campaign by hosting monthly meet-ups at the store. Women’s specific group rides include I Ride Like a Girl road rides, I Mountain Bike Like a Girl rides and Tri Like a Girl workouts. All levels of athletes are welcome and encouraged to attend these events.
