Freeplay elite amateur, Laurence Delisle, raced her first Half Ironmman distance race and finished 1st in the 18-24 age-group and 4th amateur overall at the Texas 70.3 in Galveton April 26.

Delisle, an Olympic Trials swimmer from UCLA, paired a fast swim with a strong bike to gain a solid lead heading into the run. Despite early season injuries and illness Delisle was able to stay strong over the 13.1 miles to win her age-group in her first half distance race.

“Racing my first 70.3 in Galveston was more than I could have hoped for – the infectious crowd and amazing athletes made the hours seem like minutes,” Delilse stated post race. “Although it was hot and humid with tornado warnings looming around us this race was incredible and I look forward to racing again. I’m definitely excited for my next 70.3”

Freeplay teammate and professional athlete, Sarah Cameto, placed 16th in a very strong women’s professional field. This race was won by Helle Fredriksen. Earlier in the season Cameto place top 5 at the San Juan 70.3. Cameto will be racing in Raleigh at the end of the month.
