Gina Anixter
Gina Anixter is a mother of two teenage girls (Aly and Natalie) and the wife of Jeff Anixter. A former collegiate heptathlete for ARC and Chico State, Gina has been competing in multi sports for nearly 30 years. Her love for triathlon started some 14 years ago when she competed in her first sprint triathlon hosted by Total Body Fitness. After competing in local Sprint and Olympic distance triathlons for a few years, she began to compete in larger venue races and during Wildflower in 2009 she qualified for Olympic Distance Age Group Nationals. The same year, she completed in her first half Ironman, Barb’s Race (all female race but Vineman venue). Graduating to half Ironman distance in 2009 came with some success as she won her age group and went onto race in more competitive venues. After placing third in her age group at Vineman in 2013, she earned a spot at World Championships in Henderson, NV. Gina contemplated long course after co-founding “Go the Distance” with her friend Greg Bomhoff but she really began believing she could finish an Ironman after pacing Greg during Badwater Ultramarathon. With a full time job, teaching exercise classes, volunteer commitments and a family, lining up for her first Ironman in 2011 took a lot of planning, persistence, and commitment. Her hard work paid off in the end and she made the podium at AZ Ironman, with a 5th place finish and a time of 11:15. She returned to AZ in 2013, finishing with a time of 10:39 and a 4th place finish. Gina continues to race the Ironman distance in hopes of eventually qualifying for Kona World Championships. She looks forward to competing in the Ironman 70.3 World Championships in 2017.
